How Can severe Upper Chest Pain Be Treated?

My college age daughter has been having a pain in her upper right chest about 2 inches beneath her collarbone for 6 days. Today it became a sharp pain. I am wondering if I should take her to the doctor because I have no idea what it might be. I previously thought it may just be a pulled muscle, but then I don t think it should get suddenly worse.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for the query to HEALTH CARE MAGIC.
Such type of pain in this area may be due to these possibilities , these include:
1 Collapse ( consolidation ) of lung ( right upper lobe ). Diagnosis can be confirmed by X RAY of chest .
2 Muscle strain , diagnosis can be confirmed by clinical examination & clinical history of patient .
3 Pneumoccocal infection of that part , again get in X RAY of chest .
Consult a primary care physician and get his opinion because physical examination is important as 6 days passed .
Good luck.
